Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

This is the end of democracy in the US.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 52 points 6 days ago

What a coincidence, i said that yesterday!

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world -2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You seem to be thinking they can just do all the crazy shit they say out loud just cuz. That's not how it works.

[–] zqps@sh.itjust.works 28 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Who's stopping them? Genuine question.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (4 children)
[–] jaredt@lemmy.ca 13 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Courts didn’t stop those people getting deported to El Salvador…

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

They're actively working to get them back and trump is digging his administration huge holes to climb their way out of at the same time.

[–] amorpheus@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Well no. They're stopping the shit they can before it happens, just like every trial it's slow and doesn't particularly stop anything after it happens you can only stop what is or might be via injunction.

[–] superkret@feddit.org 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Are they?

I mean yes, they wrote decisions on pieces of paper saying things the Trump admin did was illegal, but did that actually stop anything?

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They aren't flying anyone out anyone unconvicted at the moment iirc. They snuck a few past to say precedent that's how the law works, it's flawed but this weird idealized system everyone seems to imagine just doesn't exist.

[–] superkret@feddit.org 1 points 5 days ago

I... have no idea what you're trying to say, sorry.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Does that include the judge they arrested?

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Correct I think they lost the injunction on that one too.

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 94 points 6 days ago

These fuckers are making life real hard for the people writing King Pin in the new Daredevil.

At the beginning of 2024 they wrote and filmed a bunch of evil comic book villain stuff, and by the time the show aired, the Trump administration already did most of that shit in real life.

I cant wait for all the 2nd amendment preppers to fight against this tyranny

[–] Archer@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Turns out cosplayers are more dedicated than them

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

So arm the cosplayers? Got it.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 days ago

I cant wait for all the 2nd amendment preppers to fight against this tyranny

I'm sure they'll get right on that any day now....

Americans can’t even get their ass off the couch to vote against this stuff, let alone stand up against in violently. Especially when half your country is in favour of this.

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 51 points 6 days ago (2 children)

If there ain't rule of law, that means mario kart rules apply, yes?

You can turn steel blue with a fun little oxidation trick: http://youtu.be/8h1Uf9bkc3E

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 21 points 6 days ago

Actually, yes it does. Habeas Corpus is in Article One of the Constitution. Suspending it without an act of rebellion or invasion is an attack on the constitution. Those attacking the Constitution should get the blue shell, and that always takes out the leader.

Remember to zero your firearm and get training.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

This. Tear it down, clean it, put it back together. That's your last line of defense, and freedom. Know it well.

[–] GaMEChld@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Yeah I plan on taking a course offered by a local place.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Get strapped if you haven't yet

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 19 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

The pope election with similar Latin terms is too close, I have to remind myself...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habeas_corpus

Oh, that's pretty neat. "You have to produce the prisoner" is basically what it means?

Of course I'm not the least bit surprised that they don't like that. OTOH, they already just ignore the courts so why bother "looking at" it. 🤷

[–] guy@piefed.social 19 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It comes from courts demanding to know who they are actually judging, "You have to produce the prisoner" is good

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 8 points 6 days ago

Thanks for confirming.

Why did they make Patton stop?

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Appropriate

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago

Can we suspend their habeus corpuses from the gallows?

[–] AngrySquirrel@lemm.ee 12 points 6 days ago
[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Tell me why you mother fuckers have so many guns again?

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 5 points 6 days ago

To cosplay rambo.

[–] weirdbeardgame@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Well that will surely be a boon to tourism and can't wait until other countries reciprocate, but maybe that will just be a boon in getting rid of these IRL nuance streamers in other countries.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 95 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Surely this won't blow up in any of your dumb, fascist faces when King Donald decides that you need to go to CECOT for life because fox news said so.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 56 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dumbass, multiple judges have said there's no evidence of invasion to use as an excuse. I'm sure the process of getting the Supreme Court to block this (if they do) won't allow any sort of harm to everyone who can't get due process and sit in legal black holes while shitty court cases work though the system.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 30 points 6 days ago (2 children)

That whole "invasion of immigrants" has been FUD from the beginning... which was a long time ago... nothing gets voters like having someone to blame for your misery, even if it's bullshit.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

They've been saying that shit for longer than I have been able to breath and people still fucken buy it.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

That whole "invasion of immigrants" has been FUD from the beginning

As was "they're ripping us off" and "fentanyl flooding across the Canadian border".

Pretty much *everything * Trump has done, he's tried to justify it with easily disproven lies.
